Koi Types
Kin Kujaku
A Kin Kujaku is a brilliant metallic Japanese koi known for its combination of luminous skin, strong pattern, and distinctive reticulation. As a hikari variety, it typically shows a bright platinum-white base overlaid with orange to red patterning and a dark matsuba-style netting across the scales, giving the fish its signature pinecone-like finish. In Nishikigoi, Kujaku is admired for blending elegance with ornament, and a Kin Kujaku stands out for the extra warmth and radiance it brings to the pond.
What makes Kin Kujaku especially appealing is the way light plays across the body. The metallic sheen gives the koi a clean, polished glow, while the patterned scales add texture and depth without making the fish feel heavy. A strong example should have clear reticulation, balanced pattern placement, and a smooth body line that allows the variety’s shine and structure to be appreciated fully in the water. For collectors looking for Japanese koi with brightness, detail, and a refined decorative presence, Kin Kujaku offers a very striking expression of Nishikigoi.
How are koi packaged for shipping?
Each koi is double-bagged with oxygen and shipped in an insulated, temperature-controlled box.
Do I need to be home when it arrives?
Yes — someone 18 or older needs to be available to receive the shipment as soon as it arrives. Prompt unboxing and acclimation is important for the fish’s health.
What happens in bad weather?
We may delay shipment during extreme weather to protect the koi, and will let you know if that happens.
Can I combine multiple koi into one shipment?
Yes — multiple purchases can typically be combined into a single shipment. Ask us about holding your koi if you’re still deciding on others.
Factors we account for
- Koi size and quantity — larger or multiple fish need more water volume and larger boxes.
- Box weight — water, oxygen, and insulation add real, billable weight.
- Distance and destination — domestic vs. international, and how remote the delivery address is.
- Season and weather — extreme heat or cold requires heat packs or extra insulation to protect the fish in transit.
- Speed of delivery — live animals ship overnight or via expedited air cargo, never standard ground.
